About Me

Dr. Sheila Silver is a board certified clinical sexologist.   Her practice consists of teaching, and acting as a consultant for mental health and medical professionals.   She also presents to these groups nationally and internationally, as well as the general public on the topic of creating emotional and physical intimacy in partnered relationships, and creating an erotic life.

She is a trained sex counselor, an experienced group facilitator, workshop leader, professional speaker and sex educator.   She holds a Doctorate in Human Sexuality and a Masters degree in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy.    She has experience teaching sex education at the high school level and has assisted with the Love, Intimacy, & Sexuality workshops for adults at the Human Awareness Institute since 2003.    She has also worked as a rape victim advocate for the Sexual Assault Resource Center in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Silver is a member of the American College of Sexologists and the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.

She has worked with a broad spectrum of clients including individuals, couples, and mental health and medical health care workers. Her areas of expertise are sexual communication, orgasm difficulties, pain with intercourse, Parkinson's disease, alternative relationships, and sexual trauma.

In addition to being an expert in the field of sexuality, Dr. Silver presents at professional conferences and to general audiences on the topic of human sexuality and how to maintain emotional and physical intimacy throughout the aging process, particularly for those with Parkinson's disease.

Her approach is sex positive and nonjudgmental. She encourages individuals to focus on pleasure and connection rather than performance, and she provides support, information and tools in her classes and presentations. With compassion and understanding, she encourages individuals to build on their strengths and attain the sexual goals that are important to them.
